The sun also sets

Life is moving forward at a rate that I can’t keep up with at this point.  I think it’s time for me to shut down a few social media options so that I can focus on tasks that I need to do, books that I need to read, information that I need to learn, and life/love that I need to enjoy with my family.

I’ll probably miss the ability to put quotes and thoughts here, but I think it will help me to read much more honestly.  In the quotosphere, it’s easy to fall into reading for the sake of affecting others’ opinions about what I am reading or have read.

Overkill?  Maybe.  I’m of the persuasion that wherever any sprouts of self-ism can find ample room to grow, it’s best to try and destroy them at their roots.

I’ll keep my Twitter account, and you can feel free to “follow” me there if you like: @thedpage.  Or feel free not to.

I’m gonna go through and save a few of these posts, but I will disable this account sometime in the next few weeks.  Hope everyone on here does well in life by seeking Christ above all.

It’s been fun, y’all.  :)

We must not pretend that the lack of integrity is a problem just for others. No, the flesh still wars within each one of us, and we must put it to death daily, taking up the cross of Christ. The Gospel reminds us that we are wholly dependent on God to work in us ‘both to will and to work for his good pleasure’ (Philippians 2:13). We need God to make us whole, that is, holy, completely set apart for his good pleasure! — The Lausanne Movement - “People of Integrity”
If you’re a church person and not a Jesus person, my heart hurts for you. It’s like being engaged and never getting married. It’s miserable. — Matt Chandler, “God is for GOD

This old world is difficult

The Father has forgiven me so much in such a priceless gift, so how can I not forgive, even those who antagonize me?

Jesus, from the cross, spoke of forgiveness.  I desire to be found with this same spirit.  Not of me, but Christ in me.

In classical Christian teaching, the divinely sanctioned union of male and female is an icon of the relationship of Christ to His church and ultimately of God to His creation. This is why gay marriage negates Christian cosmology, from which we derive our modern concept of human rights and other fundamental goods of modernity. Whether we can keep them in the post-Christian epoch remains to be seen. — Rod Dreher - “Sex After Christianity”, on The American Conservative
It seems that when people decide that historically normative Christianity is wrong about sex, they typically don’t find a church that endorses their liberal views. They quit going to church altogether. — Rod Dreher - “Sex After Christianity”, on The American Conservative
Be careful, lest in your enthusiasm about saying nice things about an effective leader, you start attributing to them things that belong only to God. — John Piper, sermon: “I Planted, Apollos Watered, But God Gave the Growth

If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95 percent of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95 percent of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference — A.W. Tozer (via superfuzzball)
